Purpose
Seeking approval and signatures from Chief Executive, Social
Care Chief Officer, Lead Members for the WHO Age Friendly Communities

RESOLVED
–
(i) That the request to apply for membership to the WHO
Global Network of Age Friendly Cities and Communities be approved.
(ii) That work with stakeholders
and citizens in developing actions plans which will be submitted in our formal
application be continued.
(iii) To continue to consider our
ageing population in policies, strategies and projects that will support age
friendly approaches – in planning and delivery stages.
(iv) That communication be shared
with all relevant parities including internal, stakeholders and the public.
This communication will help build transparency and engage citizens in the
process.
(v) That a small, Corporate
working group be developed to act to share positive age friendly work and
outcomes that will contribute towards the gaining of the recognition from WHO
and its maintenance. This will be facilitated by the Council’s Age Friendly
Officer.
Reason for decisions
To align with Welsh
Government’s progressive vision on the wellbeing and ageing well for
citizens: Wrexham Council has an
opportunity to deliver a positive initiative for our ageing population to apply
for World Health Organisation Age Friendly Communities. This commitment reinforces our dedication to
creating a more inclusive, supportive and accessible environments for all ages,
with particular focus on the needs of older citizens.
