April 4, 2025 Director of Communities (Officer) Key decision Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
To work in collaboration with Lancaster City
Council and Westmoreland and Furness Council. The three
councils’ administrative areas adjoin Morecambe Bay and
Duddon Estuary Special Protection Area (SPA), Ramsar and Morecambe
Bay Special Areas for Conservation (SAC).
Morecambe Bay Partnership commissioned the 2015 Morecambe Bay Bird
Disturbance and Access Management Report. A new visitor survey to
provide an up-to-date understanding of visitor motivations and use
of Morecambe Bay and of locational spheres of influence is now
required. Morecambe Bay Partnership is best placed to manage this
commission which builds upon previous assessments.
Morecambe Bay Partnership is a registered charity that connects
people with nature, heritage and culture of Morecambe Bay. It is
the only Morecambe Bay organisation with necessary skills and local
knowledge.
Decision
To work in collaboration with Lancaster City
Council and Westmoreland and Furness Council. Collecting evidence
jointly for Morecambe Bay will ensure the best outcome and offer
best value for money. It will also ensure the three councils
constructively engage on strategic cross boundary issues to meet
the Duty to Co-operate requirement for local plan making.
Lancaster City Council (the procuring council) will directly engage
Morecambe Bay Partnership to carry out consultancy Services in
respect of a Morecambe Bay Visitor Survey study.
