Purpose: To approve capital funding obtained through planning obligations (Section 106) to provide additional accommodation and facilities at Cheslyn Hay Academy

Content: To approve the utilisation of Section 106 (S106) capital funding for a project to provide additional accommodation and facilities at Cheslyn Hay Academy in order to mitigate housing development in the school’s catchment area. The project at Cheslyn Hay Academy is to remodel two areas of the school to deliver two additional classrooms, creation of a new sixth form space with its own The project will allow the school to deliver the curriculum more succinctly as well as to improve sixth form facilities. The project will be fully funded by S106 funding, and no funding will be required from basic need. Approval is sought to deliver the project up to the maximum of the S106 funding available which is £742,052. The cost of the project is currently estimated to be £618,698 however further costs are currently being obtained to undertake additional minor works as part of the project, provided this can be met within the S106 funding available. The majority of the Section 106 funding (circa £650k) secured is restricted to providing “two additional teaching rooms and associated ancillary infrastructure” at Cheslyn Hay Academy. If the project isn’t delivered the Section 106 funding would need to be returned to the developer plus any interest gained. No basic need funding will be utilised towards the project and should the cost of the project exceed the S106 available the academy trust will be required to meet the shortfall.
