Purpose: The Volunteer Policy was last adopted on 15 December 2021. An officer working group was formed to review the existing Volunteer Policy and provide a new policy incorporating groups such as CICs within the new policy.

Content: Cabinet agreed the following:   1.  To adopt the Volunteer Policy presented as Annex 1 in the Cabinet report, with effect from 2 August 2025.

Reasons for the decision: By the Council having an adopted Volunteer Policy this encourages volunteers to take part in projects that make Thanet a great place to live in and visit as they can see that policies and procedures exist that are designed to protect and value them.

Alternative options considered: The Council could decide not to adopt the new Volunteer Policy but to stay with the currently adopted policy from 2021. This is not the preferred option because there is a recognised need to improve the Volunteer Policy to include groups who engage volunteers.
