Purpose: The Cabinet will be asked to consider proposals relating to the use of compulsory purchase powers to acquire long term empty properties to secure their repair, renovation and re use as units of housing accommodation.

Content: The Committee has considered a report detailing a proposal to exercise compulsory purchase powers to acquire the long-term vacant properties outlined in section 1.1 of the report to secure their repair, renovation and reuse, and has:-   (1) Noted the contents of the report.   (2) Resolved and agreed to the principle of the use of CPO powers in section 17 of the Housing Act 1985 to acquire the Properties to secure their repair, renovation and re-use as units of housing accommodation.   (3) Delegated authority to the Deputy Chief Executive in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Housing and Environment to take all necessary steps to secure the making, confirmation and implementation of CPOs for the Properties, including (but not limited to) preparing all necessary documentation, the publication and service of all relevant notices and the presentation of the Council’s case at any future local public inquiry.
