Decision
Motion 2: Say No to Bullying
Decision Maker:
Outcome: Recommendations Approved
Is Key Decision?: No
Is Callable In?: No
Date of Decision: November 19, 2025
Purpose:
Content: RESOLVED: 1. Milton Keynes City Council believes that bullying is unacceptable in any form and in any setting – whether in schools, workplaces, online or public life – and is a damaging behaviour that causes profound negative effects on the mental health and long-term well-being of young people. The issue of bullying is particularly significant in school and educational settings. 2. Milton Keynes City Council notes: a) That bullying is now increasingly prevalent through digital platforms, enabling bullies to harass victims from anywhere, creating new challenges for intervention. b) That while the act of bullying is harmful, the behaviour often comes from a complex set of underlying issues, which must also be addressed. 3. Milton Keynes City Council therefore resolves to: a) Ask the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People to work with officers to encourage all local schools and educational settings to have robust anti-bullying policies with appropriate reporting tools, enforcement and help for victims and proper behavioural change support for perpetrators. b) To ask the Chief Executive to write to our 3 local MPs asking for backing for this Council's campaign and to call for an increase in resources dedicated to schools to help tackle and prevent bullying, particularly in the growing digital landscape.
