Decision

Lordsdale Greenway Local Nature Reserve (proposed)

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Outcome: Recommendations Approved

Is Key Decision?: Yes

Is Callable In?: Yes

Date of Decision: November 25, 2025

Purpose: To consider the report of the Cabinet Member for Environment and Net Zero, detailing the proposals for the adoption of Lordsdale Greenway as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR)

Content: Subject to the consultation response from Natural England, to authorise the Director of Legal and Governance to make the declaration to establish the Lordsdale Greenway as a Local Nature Reserve.

Reasons for the decision: Designating Lordsdale Greenway as a LNR will help address the council’s LNR deficit and give the site enhanced status. LNR designation will raise the site’s profile and help to generate greater public interest in, and support for, its care and management.  It will also help to highlight opportunities for informal recreation to local residents.

Alternative options considered: Not declaring Lordsdale Greenway as a LNR will not alter the City Council’s responsibilities or workload in respect of managing the site.  It will, however, result in disappointment for SNPC and the Friends group and may deter local people from volunteering in parks and greenspaces. This option is therefore not recommended,
