Purpose: The current PSPO was approved by Cabinet on 30 November 2022 and came into effect on 22 December 2022 and will expire in December 2025. It prohibits specific activities in the area to which the PSPO applies including the holding of unlicensed music events and/or raves, the destruction or damage of trees, shrubs, plants or any other flora,fauna, woodland or wildlife, the possession, consumption or sale of nitrous oxide, laughing gas or CO2, save when used for a valid and demonstrable medicinal purposes or is given to an animal as a medical remedy and the playing of loud music, whether or not amplified. Wards affected: Kings Park, Hackney Wick, Lea Bridge Approval is requested for Cabinet to agree to renew the existing Order.
Content: RESOLVED: 3.1 To approve the renewal of the existing Public Space Protection Order in relation to Wick Woodland and the surrounding areas, for a further three years. This would continue to place controls on anti-social behaviour caused by groups of people gathering, bringing generators, lighting, sound systems and decorations in Wick Woodland, Hackney Marshes and surrounding areas, often consuming alcohol and other substances and ‘partying’ till the early hours. These acts cause nuisance and damage to the proposed prescribed areas. The Order would be made under Section 59 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 and a copy of the proposed Order is attached to this report as Appendix 1.
