Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Wiltshire and are not the council. About us
The Pewsey Area Board meeting scheduled for 8 June 2026 was set to cover a range of community and local infrastructure matters. Key discussions were anticipated to include the allocation of funding for local projects, updates from various community organisations and partnerships, and recommendations from the Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group.
Appointment of Representatives
The board was scheduled to appoint lead members to outside bodies for the 2026-2027 period. This included confirming Councillor representatives for organisations such as the Pewsey Community Area Partnership and The Vale Health and Wellbeing Centre. A lead representative was also to be appointed to the Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group (LHFIG), and its Terms of Reference were to be noted.
Written Updates and Information Items
A series of written updates were scheduled for noting by the board. These included information from BSW Together (Integrated Care Board), Community First, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Wiltshire Money. Wiltshire Council provided several briefing notes covering the Wiltshire Faith Communities Network, the launch of the Wiltshire Community Lottery, the Connect to Work Programme and Skills Bootcamps, a call to action from Wessex Community Action, and the Wiltshire Police Violence Against Women and Girls Quarterly Report.
Community Spotlight
The Green Vale Project was scheduled to provide an update as part of the Community Spotlight segment, offering an opportunity to highlight positive community initiatives or feedback from previous grant awards.
Funding Applications
The board was to consider applications for funding from various streams. The opening budgets for Community Area Grants (£16,464), Young People Grants (£13,967), and Older & Vulnerable Grants (£7,500) were to be noted. Specific applications included:
- Wilcot Cricket Club: £2,566.73 towards capital equipment.
- Greatwood Charity: £2,429.00 towards kitchen refurbishment.
- Pewsey Parish Council: £1,972.00 towards a temporary ice rink as part of The Pewsey Winter Festival.
Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group (LHFIG)
The minutes from the LHFIG meeting on 13 May 2026 were to be considered, along with any recommendations. The group recommended closing several issues, including speed limit assessments in Chirton and North Newnton, and village gate and nameplate requests in Beechingstoke. Funds previously allocated for the A4 Froxfield Crossings (£3,200) were recommended to be returned for redistribution. The LHFIG also recommended allocating funding to new priority schemes, including a 20mph speed limit in Manningford (£5,000), lighting assessments in Great Bedwyn (£2,104.20), village gates on the A345 Woodbridge Upavon Road (£1,500), SID infrastructure on C8 Wilcot Alton Road (£253.33), unsuitable for HGVs signs in Froxfield (£415.49), and a speed limit assessment in the A338 Shalbourne area (£2,250).
