The Eyemouth Common Good Fund Sub-Committee met on Monday 08 June 2026 to review financial reports and approve the draft budget for the upcoming financial year. The committee noted the financial position of the Common Good Fund for the year ending 31 March 2026 and approved the draft budget for 2026-27.

Monitoring Report and Budget Approval

The sub-committee considered the monitoring report, which detailed the actual and forecasted income and expenditure for the Eyemouth Common Good Fund for the financial year ending 31 March 2026, along with the proposed budget for the financial year 2026-27. Catriona Ewen, Statutory Reporting and Treasury Business Partner from Finance, presented the report.

The report indicated minimal activity within the Common Good Fund during the year. Income received consisted of £200 in interest on the cash balance held with Scottish Borders Council. Expenditure included £64 for a disabled alarm repair. For accounting purposes, a depreciation charge of £48,475 was allocated against properties, resulting in a net deficit of £48,339 for the year. Catriona Ewen noted an error in the formatting of figures in Appendix 2 of the report and stated she would issue an updated version.

The recommendations from the report were to note the figures and information contained within it, and to approve the draft budget for 2026-27. Councillor Aileen Orr, Chair of the Eyemouth Common Good Fund Sub-Committee, thanked Catriona Ewen for her presentation. William Mohieddeen, Democratic Services Officer, confirmed that the committee had nods of approval for the draft budget, indicating its acceptance.

The meeting also included the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting held on 9 June 2025. The sub-committee confirmed that there were no other items previously circulated or deemed urgent by the Chair.

The Eyemouth Common Good Fund Sub-Committee is responsible for overseeing funds that are held for the benefit of the community of Eyemouth. The financial reports presented provide an overview of the fund's performance and future financial planning. The Common Good Fund is a charitable trust established for the benefit of the inhabitants of a burgh or parish, with its origins often dating back to medieval times. The sub-committee's decisions ensure the responsible management and allocation of these funds.
