The Stonehenge Area Board meeting scheduled for 11 June 2026 was set to discuss funding applications for various community projects, review local highway and footpath improvement proposals, and receive updates from key partners. The meeting's agenda also included information items on community initiatives and a spotlight on a recent youth fair.
Funding Applications
The board was scheduled to consider several applications for funding across three grant streams: Community Area Grants, Youth Grants, and Older & Vulnerable Grants.
Under Community Area Grants, applications included:
- Shrewton Village Hall and Recreation Ground requested £1,774.80 towards a hearing loop system for the village hall.
- Amesbury Mens Shed sought £2,749.99 for equipment, including a safer table saw and a can crushing machine, to enhance their operations and support older and vulnerable members.
- The Safe Haven mental health project requested £5,000.00 to continue providing vital mental health support, including raising awareness, reducing stigma, and offering safe spaces.
- The River Till Monitoring Group applied for £3,500.00 to support their work in monitoring the condition of the River Till and identifying pollution indicators.
For Older & Vulnerable Grants, the following applications were listed:
- Latte and Laughter requested £2,100.00 towards their project of the same name, aimed at supporting older and vulnerable individuals.
- The Silver Salisbury Group applied for £500.00 to support a men's coffee morning pilot in Amesbury, following a successful model in other areas.
Under Youth Grants, the applications were:
- The Youth Adventure Trust requested £4,000.00 to support disadvantaged young people in Amesbury and Durrington through their programme, which includes residential camps and ongoing mentoring.
- Hazel Hill Wood applied for £3,000.00 towards outdoor activity days for young people at their Nature Reserve and Retreat Centre, focusing on wellbeing and conservation.
- Stonehenge Area Board Initiative requested £1,350.00 for the regional and national participation of young athletes.
- Mad Hatters Tea Party (via Buzz Action Foundation) requested £350.00 towards a VIP experience for children with life-limiting illnesses and their siblings.
- God Unlimited (Gul) Outdoor Therapy requested £5,000.00 towards their
Get Outdoors with Gul
project, offering free holiday provision to low-income and disadvantaged groups. - Amesbury Youth Partnership requested £1,000.00 towards the Amesbury Festival of Youth.
The report indicated that the Youth Grant budget was projected to be overspent by £4,651.00 if all grants were awarded in full.
Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group (LHFIG)
The board was asked to note the minutes from the LHFIG meeting held on 13 May 2026 and consider any recommendations. The report detailed several proposed highway improvements, with recommended funding allocations from the LHFIG and contributions from local Parish and Town Councils. These included:
- Stapleford B3083 signing & road markings: £1,500 requested (£1,125 from LHFIG, £375 from Stapleford Parish Council).
- Durrington SID infrastructure: £4,000 requested (£3,000 from LHFIG, £1,000 from Durrington Town Council).
- Shrewton, Tanners Lane parking issues: Site observations were scheduled to assess measures to prevent pavement parking opposite Shrewton Primary School.
- A360 Orcheston junction visibility: A site meeting had taken place, and Shrewton Parish Council was to confirm support for further investigation.
- Durrington, Hackthorne Road virtual footway and Church Street road markings: Proposals for road marking improvements were to be reviewed by Durrington Town Council.
- Durrington, Birchwood Drive verge marker posts: £1,200 requested (£900 from LHFIG, £300 from Durrington Town Council) to prevent vehicles accessing grass verges.
- Shrewton, Rollestone Crossroads safety and speeding issue: A proposal for speed limit reduction and crash barriers was to be drafted for Shrewton Parish Council's review.
- Shrewton, B3086 London Road speeding issue: A site meeting had identified a location for a solar-powered Speed Indication Device (SID).
- Amesbury, Porton Road pedestrian safety issue: Following a site visit, it was noted that hedge cutting and proposed village gates should increase driver awareness.
- Shrewton, A360/Nett Road/Meadway safety issues: A signing review was to be carried out on the A360 approaches to Nett Road/Chalk Hill crossroads and the entrance to Meadway.
- Durrington, New Road, Clover Lane, Blubell Way, Coronation Road, Charles Road and Bulford Road waiting restrictions: Requests were to be assessed and proposals drafted.
- Amesbury, Shears Drive, Archers Way & Princess Way parking issues: Parking restrictions were to be assessed and proposals drafted.
- Amesbury, Boscombe Down pedestrian crossing: Costs for lighting improvements and a full pedestrian crossing assessment were to be investigated.
- Shrewton, Lower Backway bollard request: Works were complete, with remedial action required.
- Amesbury, South Mill Road, Orchard Way, Bramley Way, Cherry Tree Way, and Figheldean, High Street, Pollen Lane: Road markings were outstanding for some locations.
- Fittleton cum Haxton, Everleigh Road speed limit: Works were to be ordered with the contractor.
- Amesbury, Shears Drive School keep clear marking: Works were complete.
- Amesbury, Kilford Close school gate access: Works were complete.
- Shrewton, Salisbury Road H-bar marking: Works were to be ordered with the contractor.
- A345 to Enford Hill: Signing was complete, with road markings outstanding.
- Street name plates: £5,000 was set aside for missing street name plates, with a priority list to be drafted.
- Maintenance update: A list of completed and planned maintenance works by Wiltshire Council was provided.

The board was scheduled to note several information items, including updates from:

- Healthwatch Wiltshire
- BSW Together (Integrated Care System)
- Alcoholics Anonymous
- Wessex Community Action
- Wiltshire Council, covering the Consultation Portal, Connect to Work Programme and Skills Bootcamps, the Wiltshire Faith Communities Network, and the Community Lottery Good Cause Launch.
Community Spotlight - Stonehenge Area Board Youth Fair
An update was scheduled to be received on the recent Youth Fair held by the Stonehenge Area Board Local Youth Network (LYN).

This session was an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the Area Board and for Town and Parish Councils to provide brief updates.
Key Partner Updates
Verbal updates were expected from Wiltshire Police, including Inspector Gavin Brewster of the Amesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team, and Chief Superintendent Doug Downing on the Southern Policing Hub at Old Sarum. Written updates from Wiltshire Police included their Amesbury NPT update, Road Safety update, and Violence Against Women and Girls quarterly report for Spring 2026.
Stonehenge Area Board Priorities and Action Plan Updates
Lead Councillors were scheduled to provide updates on their local Area Board priorities and actions.
Appointments
The meeting was to include appointments of lead Members to the LHFIG and Stonehenge Area Board outside bodies, and to note the LHFIG terms of reference.
The meeting was scheduled to conclude at 8:30 pm, with future meeting dates set for Thursday 5 November 2026 and Thursday 4 March 2027.
