The Property Sub-Committee of Staffordshire Council is scheduled to consider proposals concerning St Modwen RC Primary School in Burton. The meeting will also involve the exclusion of the public for discussions on exempt information.
St Modwen RC Primary School, Burton
A significant item on the agenda concerns St Modwen RC Primary School in Burton. The report pack indicates that the committee will review proposals for the freehold transfer of the school buildings, hardstanding, and landscaped areas at the Tutbury Road site to Birmingham Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered. Additionally, there is a proposal to grant a 125-year academy lease of the playing fields at the Tutbury Road site to St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Multi-Academy Trust. The committee is also scheduled to consider the freehold acquisition of the former St Modwen's school site on Belvoir Road from Birmingham Roman Catholic Diocesan Trustees Registered.
The report pack outlines that the statutory transfer of the Tutbury Road site is a requirement under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (as amended by the Education and Inspections Act 2006) and will be for no consideration. The lease of the playing fields is also expected to be granted at a peppercorn rent, with the consent of the Secretary of State to be obtained prior to completion. The acquisition of the Belvoir Road site is also proposed for no consideration. The report notes that the Council is already maintaining the Belvoir Road site, which is currently occupied by Samuel Allsopp primary and nursery community School. The report author for this transaction is Jason Wilkinson, Head of School Asset Strategy.
Exclusion of the Public
The agenda includes a proposal for the exclusion of the public from the meeting. This is to allow for the discussion of items that are likely to involve the disclosure of exempt information, as defined in Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. Following this, there is an agenda item for Exempt Minutes of the meeting held on 20 May 2026
