Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Wiltshire and are not the council. About us
The Devizes Area Board is scheduled to meet on Monday 22 June 2026, with a key focus on local highways and footpaths improvements, alongside discussions on air quality and sustainable transport initiatives. The meeting will also consider several funding applications from local community groups and youth organisations.
Local Highways and Footpaths Improvements Group (LHFIG)
The Devizes Area Board is set to review minutes and consider recommendations from the Local Highways and Footpaths Improvements Group (LHFIG) regarding various highway and footpath projects. Among the recommendations are proposals for speed limit implementation on West End in Bishops Cannings, a 20mph speed assessment in Stert, a pedestrian crossing assessment in Rowde, and improvements on Seend Cleeve. Further details on active projects are available in the published reports pack1.
Air Quality and Sustainable Transport (AQST)
Updates and potential recommendations from the Devizes Air Quality and Sustainable Transport (AQST) Group are scheduled for discussion. The group's work includes initiatives such as improving cycling and walking routes, exploring electric vehicle charging, supporting car-sharing schemes, and enhancing bus services. The terms of reference for the AQST group are available for review2.
Funding Applications
The Board will consider several applications for funding across different streams. In the Community Area Grants category, applications include a request for a replacement ground source heat pump boiler for The Market Lavington Community Hall Management Trust, a new fire alarm system for Potterne Village Hall, and acoustic treatment for Easterton Village Hall. For Older and Vulnerable People Grants, the Moving Stories
project by Our Time Project, which aims to enhance the well-being of elders in Devizes through theatre and movement workshops, is listed. Youth Grant applications include funding for Community Street Sports from Spurgeons Childrens Charity Wiltshire Family Hub, support for West Lavington Youth Club, and Devizes Summer Pop Up Youth Week 2026 from Wiltshire Youth for Christ. The available budgets and remaining balances for each grant stream are detailed in the report pack3.
Key Partner Updates and Community Spotlight
The meeting will include verbal updates from key partners, such as Wiltshire Police, with Inspector Simon Garrett expected to provide a response to a question submitted by Councillor Philip Whitehead regarding the enforcement of existing weight restrictions. There will also be an opportunity for Town and Parish Councils to provide brief updates. A Community Spotlight
segment is planned to highlight the positive work of the Devizes Community Lounge / Youth Space, which has received grant funding from the Area Board.
Other Discussions
The agenda also includes the election of a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the upcoming year, the approval of minutes from the previous meeting, and the receipt of various written updates and information items. These include information from Community First, an update from Alcoholics Anonymous, a call to action from Wessex Community Action concerning the pressures on the voluntary sector, and details on the Wiltshire Council Consultation Portal, the Connect to Work Programme and Skills Bootcamps, the Wiltshire Faith Communities Network, the Community Lottery, and the ongoing Community Governance Review4. The Board will also consider appointments to various outside bodies and working groups, including the Local Highways and Footpaths Improvements Group (LHFIG), the Air Quality and Sustainable Transport (AQST) group, and the Health and Wellbeing Group (HWBG).
