The Licensing Sub-Committee was scheduled to consider a new premises licence application for Purley Sports Club. The meeting's agenda also included the standard procedural items such as the election of a chair, declarations of interest, and the approval of minutes from the previous meeting.
Licence Application for Purley Sports Club
The primary item scheduled for discussion was a new premises licence application for Purley Sports Club, located at The Ridge, Purley, CR8 3PF. The application sought authorisation for several licensable activities, including:
- Sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises: Proposed hours varied across the week, generally from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm or later on weekends.
- Provision of live music, recorded music, and performance of dance: Scheduled from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Sundays to Thursdays, and extending to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Provision of late-night refreshment: Proposed from 11:00 pm to 11:30 pm on Thursdays and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
The report pack indicated that the Metropolitan Police and Trading Standards Officer had initially raised concerns, which were subsequently addressed through amendments to the applicant's operating schedule. However, 40 valid representations were received from Other Parties,
raising concerns related to all four licensing objectives: the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm. These representations highlighted potential issues such as increased noise pollution, anti-social behaviour, traffic congestion, and parking problems in the predominantly residential area surrounding the club.
The report pack also detailed the Licensing Sub-Committee - Hearings Procedure1, outlining the process for determining such applications.
