Summary
The Governance Committee noted an update on its Member Learning & Development program. The committee also heard a verbal update on plans to update the council's constitution and a verbal report on the borough, town, and parish councils' registers of interest.
Member Learning & Development Programme 2023-2027
The committee received a report updating it on the progress of its Member Learning & Development Programme 2023-2027 (Agenda item 4).
The program, which started in May 2023, is designed to provide training for the council's elected members. It is now entering its fourth and final stage.
Feedback from councillors has been largely positive.

The Member Support team will continue to develop the program and will apply for accreditation from the Local Government Association.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Training
The committee received a verbal report on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training for members. The meeting considered whether the council's EDI training module should become a mandatory part of the Member Learning and Development Programme.
Constitution Update
The committee received a verbal report updating it on the progress of plans to update the council's constitution.
The constitution of a local authority is a document that sets out how it operates, how decisions are made, and the procedures that are followed. All councils are required to have a constitution by The Local Government Act 2000.
Registers of Interest Update
The committee received a verbal report on the borough, town, and parish councils' registers of interests.
The registers of interest are a public record of councillors' financial and other interests. Councillors are required to register any interests that could potentially influence their decision-making.
