The Bexley Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) was scheduled to meet on Wednesday 26 June 2024. The agenda indicated that the meeting would focus on the proposed constitution for the National Association of Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education (NASACRE) and its registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Updates on local and national matters concerning religious education were also planned for discussion.
NASACRE Draft Constitution and CIO Registration
A significant portion of the meeting was scheduled to be dedicated to reviewing the NASACRE Draft Constitution 2024 and its proposed registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This item, detailed across pages 15 to 56 of the agenda documents, would have involved consideration of the governance and operational framework for the national body representing SACREs. The agenda indicated that discussions would cover the implications of this new constitution and the process of becoming a CIO, which is a legal structure for charities in the UK.
Local and National Updates
The council was also scheduled to receive updates on both local and national developments related to religious education. These updates, outlined on pages 57 to 66 of the agenda, would have provided information on current trends, policies, and initiatives impacting religious education within Bexley and across the country.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at the Civic Offices in Bexley. The contact officer for the meeting was Alice Dockings, who could be reached at 020 3045 4695. The agenda also noted that filming, audio recording, photography, and the use of social media were permitted at the meeting, provided consent was obtained for any members of the public or junior officers who might be filmed, recorded, or photographed.
The membership of the Bexley Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) comprises representatives from various religious denominations, teachers, and local authority councillors. Councillor Christine Catterall was listed as the Chairman, and Mrs Dorothy Jones as the Vice Chairman. The meeting was scheduled to confirm the date of the next meeting as Tuesday 19 November 2024.
