The Nominations and Grants Committee of Tamworth Council met on 19 June 2024 to discuss various grant applications and nominations for honorary titles. The committee awarded grants to several local organisations and considered nominations for the titles of Honorary Alderman and Freeman of the Borough.
Tamworth Borough Council Grant Schemes
The committee awarded grants to five local organisations:
- St Editha’s Church received £900 towards the cost of a new coffee machine. An additional £100 was later added to this grant due to an underspend in the budget.
- Tamworth Musical Theatre Company was awarded £1,000 to cover the costs of a British Sign Language signer for theatre performances.
- 2nd Dosthill Brownies received £965 for purchasing a new laptop, Microsoft Office, memory sticks, a website and domain, and a printer. An additional £35 was later added to this grant.
- Choices was granted £960 towards core costs for their venue. An additional £40 was later added to this grant.
- Up Creative Hub CIC received £1,000 towards core costs, facilitator costs, Giraffe pad login, and refreshments for their project.
The total amount awarded was £4,825. Due to an underspend of £284.34 in the budget, the committee decided to increase the grants for St Editha’s Church, 2nd Dosthill Brownies, and Choices to £1,000 each.
Nomination for Honorary Alderman
The committee considered a nomination for an individual to be awarded the title of Honorary Alderman under Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972. The nomination was deemed worthy, and the committee agreed to present it to the council for approval in May 2024.
Nomination for Freeman of the Borough
Another nomination was considered for the title of Freeman of the Borough, also under Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972. The committee found this nomination to be worthy as well and decided to present it to the council for approval in May 2024.
