Summary
Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Redbridge and are not the council. About us
The Annual Meeting of Redbridge Council was scheduled to convene on Monday, 30 May 2022. Key items on the agenda included the election of the Mayor for the upcoming municipal year, the appointment of the Leader of the Council, and the reception of the Leader's annual address. The meeting also included a review of members' attendance for the previous municipal year and consideration for the appointment of members to various committees.
Election of Mayor and Vote of Thanks
A primary item on the agenda was the election of the Mayor for the municipal year 2022/23. Following this, the council was scheduled to pass a vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor, Councillor Roy Emmett, for his service during the 2021/2022 municipal year. The motion also intended to associate the name of the retiring Mayoress, Mrs Diana Middleditch, with this expression of appreciation, with plans for illuminated copies of the resolution and commemorative gifts to be presented.
Additionally, a vote of thanks was scheduled for the retiring Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jyotsna Islam, and her consort, Councillor Sham Islam, for their service during the 2021/2022 municipal year. Certificates were to be presented in commemoration of their service. The council was also set to record its thanks to former members for their service over the preceding four municipal years.
Appointment of Council Leader and Leader's Address
The agenda included the appointment of the Leader of the Council for the years 2022 to 2026. Following this, the council was scheduled to receive the annual address from the Leader.
Committee Appointments and Members' Attendance
The meeting was to consider the appointment of members and the terms of reference for various committees or other bodies. A report detailing the record of members' attendance for the municipal year 2021/22 was also to be received. This report provided a breakdown of attendance at Council meetings, Cabinet meetings, and Committee/Sub-Committee meetings, noting instances where members observed proceedings remotely. A separate section detailed members' attendance at Panels, Groups & Working Groups, and a final section outlined attendance at mandatory training sessions, including Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, Planning, and Licensing.
Election Results
The Chief Executive was scheduled to submit the results of the elections held in May 2022. This would have provided an overview of the elected councillors across various wards, including the number of votes received by each candidate and the overall turnout for each ward. For example, in the Aldborough ward, Councillor Jyotsna Rahman and Councillor Lebo Phakoe were listed as elected Labour Party candidates. In Barkingside, Councillor Judith Garfield and Councillor Mark Anthony Santos, both Labour Party candidates, were noted as elected. The results for other wards, such as Bridge, Chadwell, Churchfields, Clayhall, Clementswood, Cranbrook, Fairlop, Fullwell, Goodmayes, Hainault, Ilford Town, Loxford, Mayfield, Monkhams, Newbury, Seven Kings, South Woodford, Valentines, Wanstead Park, and Wanstead Village, were also detailed, indicating the elected councillors and their respective party affiliations.
