The Plans Committee of Charnwood Council met on Thursday, 20 June 2024, to discuss several planning applications, including significant proposals for land at Melton Road in Queniborough and Chaveney Road in Quorn. Decisions were made on various applications, with some approved and others deferred for further consideration.
Land at Melton Road, Queniborough
The committee discussed the planning application P2312352 for a residential development on land at Melton Road, Queniborough. The proposal includes the construction of 150 new homes, with a mix of affordable housing and market-rate properties. Concerns were raised about the impact on local infrastructure, particularly schools and healthcare services. Councillor Jane Smith noted,
The local schools are already at capacity, and adding more families to the area without addressing this will create significant issues.
Despite these concerns, the committee approved the application, citing the need for more housing in the area and the developer's commitment to contribute to local infrastructure improvements.
Chaveney Road, Quorn
The application P2310852 for a new commercial development on Chaveney Road, Quorn was also discussed. The proposal includes the construction of office spaces and retail units. Local business owners expressed support for the development, highlighting the potential for economic growth. However, residents voiced concerns about increased traffic and parking issues. The committee decided to defer the decision to allow for a more detailed traffic impact assessment.
Queniborough Lodge
The committee reviewed the application P2212242 for the renovation and extension of Queniborough Lodge, a historic building. The proposal aims to convert the lodge into a boutique hotel. Councillor David Brown commented,
This project has the potential to boost local tourism and preserve a significant historical site.
The application was approved unanimously, with the committee praising the balance between preserving the building's heritage and promoting economic development.
Two Gates, Wymeswold
The application P2303462 for a new agricultural building at Two Gates, Wymeswold was discussed. The proposal includes the construction of a barn for storing farming equipment and produce. The committee approved the application, noting the importance of supporting local agriculture.
Lee Wood Farm, Newtown Linford
The committee considered the application P2405522 for the development of a new equestrian facility at Lee Wood Farm, Newtown Linford. The proposal includes stables, a riding arena, and associated facilities. The application was approved, with the committee acknowledging the benefits to the local equestrian community.
Other Applications
Several other applications were discussed, including:
- P2403742 for a residential extension at 8 Newstead Way, Loughborough.
- P2405232 for a new garage at 3 Woodlands Drive, Shepshed.
Both applications were approved without significant objections.
