The Carshalton and Clockhouse Local Committee met on 19 January 2021 to discuss climate change initiatives and approve funding for various local improvements. Key decisions included allocating funds for new play equipment at Corrigan Rec Playground, tree replacement in Carshalton Fields Residents' Area, and the installation of benches and notice boards in local parks. The committee also held an engagement event focused on the climate emergency.
Area Improvements and Public Realm Programme
The committee approved a series of funding allocations from the Public Realm Capital and Revenue budgets for a range of local improvements. These included £13,750 for additional play equipment at Corrigan Rec Playground, £884 for an additional name to be added to the WWI memorial in Carshalton, and £7,500 for tree replacement in the Carshalton Fields Residents' Area.
Further allocations approved were £239 for an additional dog waste bin at the entrance to the small holdings, junction of Oaks Track and Woodmansterne Lane; £814 for an additional bench in Grove Park; £2,002 for a heritage-style notice board in Grove; £1,000 for an information notice board in Oaks Park Carshalton; £2,140 for benches and signs in Oaks Park; £1,800 for a bench at 149 Stanley Park Road; and £4,840 for replacement trees in Watercress Walk.
Additionally, £3,000 was earmarked from 2021/22 Public Realm Revenue funding for the annual hanging baskets scheme across all ward areas, subject to funding availability following the approval of budgets at full Council in March 2021.
Engagement Event - The Climate Emergency and You
The committee held a dedicated engagement event to discuss the climate emergency. Participants engaged in discussions about how individuals and groups can respond to the effects of climate change. Jennifer Sibley, Head of Climate Action and Sustainability, presented the council's Environment Strategy and sought feedback on its communication. Mark Dalzell, Head of Parks and Open Spaces, and David Warburton, Senior Biodiversity Officer, outlined the council's approach to improving the ecology of parks and open spaces. Dean James, Strategic Planning Manager, introduced the consultation on the council's draft Sustainable Transport Strategy.
Appointment of Community Representatives
Anthony Currie-Webb was appointed as a community representative for the Friends of Warren Park group, with Amy Currie-Webb appointed as deputy representative.
