The General Purposes Committee of the Royal Borough of Greenwich met on Thursday 28 March 2024. The meeting confirmed the minutes from a previous meeting and agreed salary ranges for several key leadership posts within the council.
Establishment of Appointments Panel - Chief Officer Recruitment
The committee agreed salary ranges for four Chief Officer posts, aligning with the Council's Pay Policy Statement. These appointments are considered essential for the delivery of Directorate and organisational objectives. The agreed salary ranges are:
- Deputy Director (Children and Families Social Care): Chief Officer grade B1, with a salary range of £134,883-£145,193.
- Strategic Lead for Inclusion and Place Planning: Chief Officer grade D, with a salary range of £90,800-£101,318.
- Strategic Lead for SEND and Vulnerable Children: Chief Officer grade D, with a salary range of £90,800-£101,318.
- Strategic Lead for Youth Justice, Adolescent Safeguarding and FaASS: Chief Officer grade D, with a salary range of £90,800-£101,318.
The committee also noted that the Chief Executive has been delegated authority to establish individual Appointment Panels for these Chief Officer roles, in consultation with the Party Group Leaders, based on the specific requirements of each post. This delegation aims to ensure efficient recruitment for these critical leadership positions.
The meeting was attended by Councillor Anthony Okereke (Chair and Leader of the Council), Councillor Matt Hartley (Leader of the Opposition), and Councillor Calum O'Byrne Mulligan. Officers present included the Assistant Chief Executive (Change and Development) and the Corporate Governance Manager. Councillor Averil Lekau (Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member Climate Action, Sustainability and Transport) sent apologies for absence. The meeting concluded at 17:42 pm.
