Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Southwark and are not the council. About us
The Overview & Scrutiny Committee of Southwark Council is scheduled to meet on Monday 22 June 2026. The meeting's agenda includes a presentation on Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection reports for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, and discussions regarding the committee's work programmes for the upcoming year.
Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection Reports - South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust
A key item on the agenda is a presentation from the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust1 regarding their recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection outcomes. The Trust has requested to provide an update on their activities following the inspection. The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care services in England, responsible for ensuring services meet fundamental standards of quality and safety. The inspection reports indicate that while the Forensic services received a Good
rating, Adult Community, Crisis, and Acute Adult services in Southwark were rated as Requires Improvement
. The Well-Led
domain also requires improvement. The Trust has developed an action plan, submitted to the CQC on 19 March 2026, to address these findings. Specific actions are being taken across Crisis Services, Community Adults, and Acute Inpatients in Southwark, including improvements to safety protocols, care plans, mandatory training compliance, and physical health monitoring.
Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Commission Work Programmes 2026-27
The committee is set to consider potential topics for its work programmes for the 2026-27 municipal year. The intention is to agree the annual work programmes at the October meetings. This approach allows for information gathering, including meetings with executive members and senior officers, to identify key issues where scrutiny can have a significant impact. The public will also have the opportunity to suggest topics for scrutiny via the Scrutiny in Southwark platform. The proposed remits for the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and its various commissions, based on executive member portfolio responsibilities, will also be noted.
Scrutiny Arrangements for 2026-27 - Appointment of Chair and Vice-Chair, Housing Scrutiny Commission
The committee will reconsider the appointment of the Chair and Vice-Chair for the Housing Scrutiny Commission. This follows changes in the membership of the commission since the initial appointments were made on 28 May 2026. A review of the procedure rules has clarified that a councillor does not need to be a member of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee to chair a scrutiny commission. Political groups will be invited to submit nominations for these positions.
