The Staffing Committee of Waltham Forest Council met on Wednesday 19 June 2024 and appointed a new Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods and Environment. No members of the press or public were present at the meeting.
Appointment of Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods and Environment
The Committee interviewed candidates for the significant role of Strategic Director of Neighbourhoods and Environment. This position is crucial for providing leadership, strategic policy direction, operational management, and financial control across various service areas including community safety, enforcement, neighbourhood management, regulatory services, highways, and the public realm. The role will also be instrumental in supporting the Council's 15 Minute Neighbourhood
agenda. Following the interview process, the Committee agreed to offer the post to Debbie Porter, subject to the completion of necessary appointment checks. This appointment is made under the Officer Employment Procedure Rules, which require consultation with Cabinet members for chief officer and heads of service appointments.
The meeting was attended by Councillor Clyde Loakes (Chair), Councillors Jenny Gray, Elizabeth Baptiste, Paul Douglas (Portfolio Lead Member - Finance and Resources), and Tim James. Officers present included Linzi Roberts-Egan (Chief Executive) and Lee Witham (Corporate Director for Culture and Workforce Development). No apologies for absence or declarations of interest were made.
