The Licensing Sub-Committee of Barnet Council met on Thursday 28 May 2026. The meeting was scheduled to consider a new premises licence application for The Greek Cypriot Brotherhood, located at 2 Britannia Road, London N12 9RU. The committee was scheduled to discuss the details of this application, including representations made by local residents.
New Premises Licence Application: The Greek Cypriot Brotherhood
The committee was scheduled to consider a new premises licence application for The Greek Cypriot Brotherhood, located at 2 Britannia Road, London N12 9RU. The application, submitted by The Greek Cypriot Community Foundation, sought permission for a range of licensable activities, including the performance of plays, exhibition of films, live and recorded music, performance of dance, provision of late-night refreshment, and the sale or supply of alcohol.
The original application proposed operating hours that extended into the early hours of the morning on Fridays and Saturdays, with alcohol sales permitted until 2 am and premises open until 2 am. However, following discussions with the Police, the applicant agreed to amend these hours. The revised proposal included ending licensable activities by 1:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays, with the premises open to the public until 2 am on those days. Alcohol sales would also conclude at 1:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 10:30 pm from Sunday to Thursday.
The report pack indicated that valid representations had been received from local residents. These representations primarily concerned the licensing objectives of the prevention of public nuisance, public safety, and the prevention of crime and disorder. Specific concerns raised by residents included noise nuisance from amplified music and patrons leaving the premises, potential for anti-social behaviour, and parking issues. Some residents also expressed concerns about the impact on their quality of life and the disruption to their daily routines, particularly for families with young children and individuals with specific needs.
The report pack outlined the steps the applicant intended to take to promote the four licensing objectives, which would become enforceable conditions if the licence were granted. These included measures for staff training, incident logging, CCTV operation, and procedures for managing noise and waste.
The committee was scheduled to review a Matters for Decision
section, which detailed each licensable activity and the proposed hours. For each activity, there were columns to indicate if the application was granted, amended, or refused. The report pack did not contain information on any decisions that were actually made, only what was scheduled for consideration.
The meeting also included a review of the Licensing Sub-Committee Hearing Procedure, which outlines the process for conducting hearings, including the rights of parties to present their cases and the role of officers and the committee members.
