Summary
Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Redbridge and are not the council. About us
The Council of Redbridge Council is scheduled to convene on Thursday, 18 June 2026. The agenda includes discussions on the Section 24 Statutory Recommendation Report for 2024-25, an appointment to the Local Pension Board, and several business motions concerning Carers Week, Civility in Public Life, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Section 24 Statutory Recommendation Report for 2024-25
A significant item on the agenda is the consideration of the Section 24 Statutory Recommendation Report for the financial year 2024-25, prepared by the Council's external auditors, EY. This report follows the annual audit of the Council's accounts and includes recommendations for improving financial reporting processes. The Council is scheduled to decide whether to accept these recommendations and what actions to take in response. The report highlights concerns regarding the timeliness and quality of financial statements, the accuracy of property valuations, and workforce stability within the finance team. The proposed response includes actions such as clarifying processes, reinforcing quality assurance, and building capacity within the finance team. The Governance and Assurance Committee is recommended to monitor the delivery of these actions.
Appointment to the Local Pension Board
The Council is also scheduled to consider an appointment to the Local Pension Board for the Municipal Year 2026-27. The report proposes the appointment of Councillor Vibhu Taneja to this board. The Local Pension Board's purpose is to assist the Administering Authority in ensuring compliance with regulations and the effective and efficient governance and administration of the Pension Scheme.
Business Motions
Several business motions are scheduled for consideration:
Carers Week
A motion, to be moved by Councillor Daniel Morgan-Thomas and seconded by Councillor Nav Johal, will address Carers Week 2026. The motion notes the national theme of Building Carer Friendly Communities
and highlights the significant contributions of unpaid carers to the UK economy and society. It also acknowledges the pressures faced by carers. The proposed resolution includes publicly recognising the contribution of unpaid carers, continuing support for the Redbridge Carers Support Service, and working with local organisations and NHS partners to strengthen awareness of carers' rights and support services.
Civility in Public Life
A motion, to be moved by Councillor Vanisha Bharti Solanki and seconded by Councillor Judith Garfield, will focus on Civility in Public Life. This motion acknowledges the anniversaries of the murders of Jo Cox MP and Sir David Amess MP, and the ongoing issues of abuse and intimidation faced by elected representatives. It proposes that the Council continue to support efforts to increase civility in politics, improve public understanding of the role of councillors, and ensure the safety of councillors through risk assessments and training.
LGBTQ+
A motion, to be moved by Councillor Lloyd Duddridge and seconded by the Leader Councillor Kam Rai, will address LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion. The motion notes the Council flying the Pride flag during June and the importance of Pride Month. It highlights the work of the Redbridge Rainbow Community and the upcoming Redbridge Pride event. The proposed resolution includes expressing thanks to the Redbridge Rainbow Community and the Redbridge Council LGBTQ+ Staff Network, welcoming the proposed ban on abusive conversion practices, and committing to inclusive data collection and ensuring partners and businesses have inclusive values.
