The Aberdeenshire Educational Trust Sub-Committee met on Friday 11 September 2026 to review the financial position of the Aberdeenshire Educational Trust (AET) and to consider grant funding awards. The meeting also included a discussion on the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Public Sector Equality Duty
The Sub-Committee was scheduled to consider and, if desired, adopt a resolution regarding the Public Sector Equality Duty. This duty, outlined in Section 149 of the Equality Act 20101, requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, harassment, and victimisation; advance equality of opportunity between those who share protected characteristics and those who do not; and foster good relations between such groups. The Sub-Committee was also to consider the contents of any Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA)2 provided, taking them into account when making decisions.
Aberdeenshire Educational Trust (AET) - Financial Update
A report was scheduled to provide an update on the financial position of the Aberdeenshire Educational Trust (AET) as at 31 August 2026. The report indicated that as at 31 March 2026, the unaudited balance held within the AET was £4,444,968, invested in a combination of external investments and the Council's Loans Fund. The external investments were valued at £3,924,035 as of 31 March 2026, an increase of £404,211 compared to the previous year.
The report was also set to detail grant awards made for the 2026/27 financial year, totalling £107,342 as at 31 August 2026. This included £9,380 for school trips approved under previous grant arrangements. The income received up to 31 August 2026, including a donation from The Robb's Trust, was also to be presented. The report recommended that the Sub-Committee note the financial position of the Aberdeenshire Educational Trust as at 31 August 2026.
Aberdeenshire Educational Trust (AET) - Grant Funding Awards
The Sub-Committee was scheduled to consider grant funding applications submitted to the Aberdeenshire Educational Trust (AET) between 13 February 2026 and 17 April 2026, along with one application deferred from a previous meeting. The report indicated that the Sub-Committee would be asked to consider the amounts of funding to be awarded for specific applications, to reject one application, and to defer two others to a future meeting. Approval for a proposed Further Education Award application was also to be sought.
