Local Growth Fund

The committee was updated on the evolving arrangements for the implementation of the Local Growth Fund (LGF) for the period 2026-2029. This fund, a successor to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, is focused on capital investments across three themes: supporting business, local economic infrastructure, and skills and employability. The programme is now routed through the Welsh Government, with the South West Wales Corporate Joint Committee (CJC) delegating lead body functions to Swansea Council for the duration of the programme. The report detailed the indicative regional budget for 2026-27, totalling £39,359,999, with the largest allocation of £23,547,536 designated for local economic infrastructure. The region has already completed an exercise to refresh its Regional Economic Delivery Plan and associated project pipeline, positioning South West Wales well for the programme's progression. Parks Development Strategy

An update was provided on the draft Parks Development Strategy, which aims to guide the development, management, and enhancement of Swansea's parks. The strategy, developed through a co-designed approach with council teams, partners, volunteers, and users, aligns parks with wider local strategies. It sets out shared aims, measurable objectives, and a practical workplan for the Parks Development function, which has been reinstated with the appointment of a Parks Development Officer. The strategy vision is: Together with the people of Swansea, we will ensure all of our parks are thriving, resilient and inclusive — connecting us to nature and to each other. The report outlined eight key themes for the strategy, including community participation and partnerships, environmental resilience, and strategic planning.
