Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Greater London Authority and are not the council. About us
The London Assembly (Plenary) is scheduled to meet on Thursday 5 November 2026 to discuss policing in London, consider various motions proposed by Assembly Members, and review updates on petitions and mayoral commitments. The meeting will also address changes to the formation of Assembly party groups.
Policing in London
A significant portion of the meeting is scheduled to be dedicated to a question and answer session concerning policing in London. Assembly Members are expected to put questions to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. These questions, detailed in the All Questions List
document, cover a wide range of issues including robbery statistics, gun crime involving young people, vehicle theft, forced marriages, modern slavery, and the protection of Jewish communities. Specific inquiries are also scheduled regarding the Metropolitan Police Service's (MPS) artificial intelligence policies, the effectiveness and value for money of its use of Palantir software, and staffing and resources for its inclusion strategy. Further questions are planned concerning Islamophobia and anti-racism training, disproportionality in vetting processes, disability hate crime reporting, and staff training on hate crime and violence against women and girls, particularly on London's transport network. The session will also address legal costs incurred by MOPAC/GLA in relation to a case involving Palantir.
Motions from Assembly Members
Several motions have been proposed by Assembly Members for consideration. James Small-Edwards AM, seconded by Anne Clarke AM, has proposed a motion welcoming the Metropolitan Police's submission of files on the Grenfell Tower fire to the Crown Prosecution Service and the CPS's commitment to making charging decisions before the 10th anniversary of the fire. Krupesh Hirani AM, seconded by Joanne McCartney AM, has put forward a motion calling on the Mayor to recognise the lack of culturally and religiously appropriate crematorium facilities in the London Plan and to work with stakeholders to address this need. Hina Bokhari OBE AM, seconded by Gareth Roberts AM, has proposed a motion recognising the injustice of the Windrush scandal and calling on the Mayor to use his platforms to promote the schemes and press the Government for swift payment of compensation. Susan Hall AM, seconded by Neil Garratt AM, has put forward a motion condemning a Green Party motion defining Zionism as a form of racism and expressing concern about its impact on London's Jewish community. Neil Garratt AM, seconded by Thomas Turrell AM, has proposed a motion expressing concern about the declining frequency and reliability of services on the Bakerloo line and calling for urgent steps to order replacement rolling stock. Benali Hamdache AM, seconded by Caroline Russell AM, has proposed a motion expressing serious concern about the Government's Immigration and Asylum Bill and calling on the Mayor to write to the Government to express his opposition. Keith Prince AM, seconded by Alex Wilson AM, has proposed a motion calling on the Mayor to instruct Transport for London (TfL) to install no new floating bus stops and to publish data on collisions and near misses at existing ones. Alex Wilson AM, seconded by Keith Prince AM, has proposed a motion believing that the construction of Heathrow Airport's third runway is fundamental to London's economic future and calling on the Mayor to publicly back its construction. Finally, Keith Prince AM, seconded by Alex Wilson AM, has proposed a motion calling on the Mayor to instruct TfL to carry out an assessment of transport concessions for unpaid carers. Caroline Russell AM, seconded by Benali Hamdache AM, has proposed a motion recognising the importance of tackling the risks posed by illegal e-bikes and calling on the Mayor to urge the Government to introduce effective legislation and work with various stakeholders to address the issue.
