Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Merton and are not the council. About us
The Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Panel of Merton Council is scheduled to consider a range of reports concerning the well-being and development of young people in the borough. Key discussions are expected to focus on the council's budget and business plan, alongside an update on the Families First Partnership Programme.
Budget and Business Plan Scrutiny
A significant portion of the meeting is allocated to the first round of scrutiny for the council's budget and business plan. This will involve reviewing documents that outline the financial plans and strategic objectives for the council, with a particular focus on how these relate to children and young people's services. The report pack indicates that this discussion will cover Budget/Business Plan Scrutiny Round 1
and is detailed across pages 5 to 196 of the agenda document.
Families First Partnership Programme Update
The panel is also scheduled to receive an update on the Families First Partnership Programme. This programme aims to provide support to families, and the discussion is expected to cover its progress and impact. The relevant report is detailed on pages 197 to 212 of the agenda.
Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) Annual Report
An annual report from the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for 2025/26 is also listed for discussion. The LADO's role is to manage allegations against people who work with children. This report, found on pages 213 to 242 of the agenda, will likely provide an overview of the LADO's work and any significant findings or trends from the past year.
Performance Report
The panel will also review a performance report, which will cover various metrics related to the services provided to children and young people in Merton. This report is detailed on pages 243 to 264 of the agenda.
Departmental and Action Log Updates
Further items scheduled for discussion include a departmental update, which is to follow, and an update on the Action Log, also to be provided. The panel's work programme for the coming period will also be reviewed, with details on pages 265 to 274 of the agenda.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 7.15 pm in Committee rooms D & E at Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden SM4 5DX. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
