Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Northumberland and are not the council. About us
The Cabinet of Northumberland Council is scheduled to consider a range of reports, including proposals for active travel routes, revisions to housing tenancy policies, and the refresh of the council's gambling strategy and licensing policy. Other discussions are expected to cover capital proposals, a new tree and woodland strategy, and a summary of the Northumberland Gambling Strategy.
Bebside to Town Centre Active Travel Route
A report from the Deputy Leader, Councillor Richard Watson Wearmouth, is scheduled to be presented regarding the Bebside to Town Centre Active Travel Route. This report seeks approval for the Full Business Case (FBC) for the route, which is part of the Energising Blyth Programme. The FBC has been externally appraised and was recommended for approval by the Economic Development & Growth Programme Board. Changes to the proposed route alignment have been made following engagement with stakeholders and residents.
Housing Services – Tenancy Policy and Agreement
The Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, Councillor Colin William Horncastle, will present a report concerning Housing Services. This report outlines proposed revisions to the Tenancy Agreement and a new Tenancy Management Policy. The council intends to consult with tenants on these changes before any final decisions are made. These revisions are identified as key actions within the council's Regulatory Compliance Improvement Plan and are part of the response to findings from the Regulator of Social Housing.
Gambling Act 2005: Refresh of Licensing Policy
The Cabinet Member for Public Safety, Councillor Gordon Stewart, is scheduled to present proposals for the refresh of the council's licensing policy under the Gambling Act 2005. As the local licensing authority, Northumberland Council is required to publish a policy outlining the principles it will apply when regulating gambling activity. Following a public consultation, the report will present final proposals for endorsement before being referred to the County Council for approval.
Tree and Woodland Strategy 2026-2036
Councillor John Robert Riddle, Cabinet Member for Environment, Rural and Farming, is expected to present the Northumberland County Council Tree and Woodland Strategy 2026-2036. This strategy details the council's approach to managing, maintaining, enhancing, and protecting trees and woodlands under its ownership and responsibility for the next decade. It will replace the existing Growing Together Strategy, which was adopted in 2010.
Summary of New Capital Proposals
The Cabinet Member for Finance and Value for Money, Councillor Nicholas Oliver, will present a summary of new capital proposals that have been considered by the Capital Strategy Group. This report will outline proposed amendments to the council's capital programme.
Northumberland Gambling Strategy
A report from the Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services and Health, Councillor Eve Louise Chicken, will provide a summary of the Northumberland Gambling Strategy.
