Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on County Durham and are not the council. About us
The Pride in Place Programme (PiPP) Board (Stanley South) was scheduled to consider a draft Investment Plan, which outlines priorities and projects for the area over the next four years. The board was also scheduled to review progress on various initiatives and discuss next steps for the programme.
Review of Draft Investment Plan
The board was scheduled to review a draft Investment Plan for the Pride in Place Programme in Stanley South. This plan details the programme's vision for the area, which is to create vibrant, inclusive and thriving places where people of all generations take pride in their heritages, shape their future and share in new opportunities.
The vision also aims to empower residents to influence their communities' futures, fostering welcoming, healthy, and sustainable neighbourhoods.
The draft Investment Plan was scheduled to include a recap of the programme's vision, priority projects across the Stanley South boundary, and an update on the war memorial project. It was also scheduled to detail progress to date on the Investment Plan, outline next steps for its completion and submission, and cover monitoring and reporting requirements. The board was scheduled to discuss and agree on a clear programme of projects and activities for Years 1 to 4.
The report pack indicated that the Investment Plan would cover priority projects in the Town Centre, Craghead, South Moor, The Middles, and boundary-wide initiatives. These included repurposing derelict buildings, improving energy efficiency, public realm enhancements, increasing CCTV coverage, and business support grants. The plan also highlighted the extension of fun and food programmes for low-income families, and sport, leisure, and youth funds.
The report pack indicated a recommendation was made for the board to approve the draft Investment Plan ahead of its submission to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) by 30 November 2026.
Programme Updates and Next Steps
The board was scheduled to receive updates on various aspects of the Pride in Place Programme. This included information on approved quick win
projects, such as a new motorised projector screen for the Stanley Community Association, a Fun and Food Programme and Christmas Event for the South Stanley Partnership, and an animation project focused on child poverty awareness.
Next steps for the programme were scheduled to include the creation of working groups across priority intervention areas, the continuation of community engagement through a You Said, We Heard
initiative, and the co-design of funding application forms for grant schemes. The board was also scheduled to formally submit the Investment Plan to MHCLG by 30 November 2026.
Other Business
The board was scheduled to discuss any other business raised by members. This could have included updates on local events, such as Christmas festivities, and discussions on potential funding sources like Section 106 (S106) funding1.

Section 106 (S106) agreements are legal obligations entered into by developers and local planning authorities. They are used to mitigate the impact of new developments by requiring developers to provide or fund community infrastructure, such as roads, schools, or healthcare facilities. ↩
