June 5, 2024 View on council website Watch video of meeting Read transcript (Professional subscription required)Summary
The June planning committee meeting for Gedling covered several key topics, including planning applications, declarations of interest, and enforcement actions. The most significant discussion was about a planning application for land east of Killisick Lane, which involved objections from residents and responses from the applicant, Strata Homes.
Land East of Killisick Lane
The main topic was the planning application for 45 new homes by Strata Homes on land east of Killisick Lane. Claire Richards, a resident, objected to the proposal, citing issues like unsuitable access via Strathmore Road, flooding concerns, and the removal of a hedgerow and tree on her property. Grace Clarkson from Strata Homes responded, highlighting the benefits of the development, including affordable housing, ecological enhancements, and contributions to local services.
Councillors debated the access issues and flooding concerns. They decided to add conditions requiring temporary drainage measures during construction and wheel washing facilities to mitigate the impact on local residents. The application was approved with these additional conditions.
Apologies and Substitutions
Councillor Pearson and Councillor Barnes were absent. Councillor Ron McCrossan and Councillor Paley substituted for them, respectively. Councillor Wilkinson noted that the membership list needed updating following the Councillor AGM.
Draft Minutes of the Last Meeting
The draft minutes of the previous meeting were approved as a true and correct record. Councillor Wilkinson seconded the proposal, and the minutes were agreed upon with one abstention.
Declarations of Interest
Several councillors declared non-pecuniary interests:
- Councillor Wheeler and Councillor Poehling declared interests due to their association with Friends of the Hobbocks, who objected to item four.
- Councillor Greensmith declared an interest because she lives close to the site of the planning application and left the room during the discussion.
Enforcement Actions
Three enforcement actions were discussed:
- Nottingham Sun Club, Brackenwood, Newstead Abbey Park, Raven's Head: A structure deemed inappropriate for the green belt area was identified. The committee authorized enforcement action to remove the structure.
- 22 Onchan Drive, Carlton: A canopy structure over a raised decking area was found to be inappropriate and out of character with the area. The committee authorized enforcement action to remove the canopy.
- 91 Main Street, Burton Joyce: A fence erected without planning permission was refused and upheld by a planning inspector. The committee authorized enforcement action to either remove the fence or reduce its height to not more than one meter.
Other Items
- Land at Top Wighay Farm, Wighay Road, Linby: The committee approved a deed of variation to the Section 106 agreement, changing the requirement from two full-size football pitches to two nine-a-side youth pitches.
- Future Applications and Planning Delegation Action Sheets: These were noted without further discussion.
The meeting concluded with no urgent business.
