The General Purposes Committee of Greenwich Council met on Wednesday 26 June 2024 and approved all of the recommendations put to them. The committee discussed the appointment of Councillors to external bodies, the recruitment of an Assistant Director of Public Health, and the confirmation of minutes from a prior meeting.

Appointment of Councillors to Outside Bodies

The committe discussed a report on the Appointment to Member-Level Bodies for 2024-25. The report contained a list of external organisations to which the Council is entitled to make appointments, and proposed which Councillors should be appointed. These included bodies such as the Old Royal Naval College Board of Governors, the South East London Combined Authority and the Lee and Docklands Trust. Some of the appointments are statutory, meaning that the Council is legally required to make them.

The Council has a number of statutory and non-statutory duties and powers in relation to its various functions and these require either nominated or appointed representatives to sit on outside bodies to ensure effective governance and service delivery.

The committee voted to approve the report.

Recruitment of an Assistant Director of Public Health

The committee discussed a report entitled Establishment of Appointments Panel Chief Officer Recruitment Assistant Director of Public Health which recommended the establishment an appointments panel to recruit for the vacant position of Assistant Director of Public Health. The report set out the proposed timetable and membership of the panel.

The Committee voted to approve the recommendations.

The Committee voted to confirm the minutes of the meeting of 28 March 2024.
