Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Carmarthenshire and are not the council. About us
The Governance & Audit Committee of Carmarthenshire Council was scheduled to consider a range of financial and audit reports from Audit Wales and the council's internal audit team. The meeting agenda also included the review of the council's Annual Governance Statement and Statement of Accounts for the 2023/24 financial year.
Audit Wales Reports
The committee was scheduled to review several documents prepared by Audit Wales. These included an update on the Audit Wales work programme, the Annual Audit Summary for 2023, and the 2024 Audit Plan for Carmarthenshire County Council. Additionally, plans for the Dyfed Pension Fund Audit 2024 and the Burry Port Harbour Audit Plan 2024 were listed for consideration.
Financial Statements and Governance
A significant portion of the agenda was dedicated to financial reporting and governance. The committee was set to consider the Annual Governance Statement for 2023/24, which outlines the council's framework for ensuring effective governance. The Statement of Accounts for 2023/24 was also scheduled for review, providing a comprehensive overview of the council's financial performance and position.
Further financial scrutiny was planned with the Dyfed Pension Fund Pre-Audit Statement of Accounts for 2023-24 and the Burry Port Harbour Financial Statement for 2023-24.
Internal Audit and Committee Reports
The committee's internal audit function was also a key focus. The agenda included an update on the Internal Audit Plan for 2023/24 and 2024/25, alongside the Internal Audit Annual Report for 2023/24. The Governance & Audit Committee's own Annual Report for 2023/24 was also scheduled for discussion.
Committee Business
In addition to the reports, the committee was due to address procedural matters. This included the appointment of the Chair and Vice Chair for the Governance and Audit Committee for the 2024/25 year. The agenda also listed the review of minutes from relevant groups and the committee's action log. Finally, the minutes of the previous Governance and Audit Committee meeting held on 8 March 2024 were to be signed as a correct record.
