This meeting was scheduled to discuss a range of issues that affect the lives of people living in Bradford East. Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture
The meeting was scheduled to receive a report (Document “D” in the Public reports pack 05th-Dec-2024 17.30 Bradford East Area Committee) on Bradford's plans for its year as UK City of Culture in 2025. The report, which was submitted by David Shepherd, Strategic Director, Place, describes how the Council is working with Bradford 2025 and other partners to prepare for the events. The report pack also includes for discussion a recommendation that Bradford East Area Committee welcome the plans set out by Bradford 2025 and Bradford Council for preparing for and celebrating the UK City of Culture in 2025 presented to them at their meeting on 5 December 2024.

Bradford East Area-Wide Traffic Regulation Order - Objections
The meeting was scheduled to receive a report (Document “E” in the Public reports pack 05th-Dec-2024 17.30 Bradford East Area Committee) on objections to proposed new parking restrictions at 12 sites in the constituency:

The report, from David Shepherd, Strategic Director, Place, explains that the proposed Traffic Regulation Order
has been promoted to address a number of requests for small areas of existing waiting restrictions to be amended or new parking restrictions to be introduced
. The report includes a summary of the objections received during a public consultation and recommends that the order be implemented as advertised.
Smart Street Lighting - Update On Project Progress
The meeting was scheduled to receive a progress report (Document “F” in the Public reports pack 05th-Dec-2024 17.30 Bradford East Area Committee) on the Smart Street Lighting project. The report, from David Shepherd, Strategic Director, Place, explains that:
The Council approved an invest to save project in 2018 of £45m to update its current lighting stock, of approximately 56,500 assets, with the aim of significantly reducing energy consumption, maintenance costs and reducing CO emissions.
The report pack also contains the following recommendation:
That Members acknowledge the progress of the Smart Street Lighting project in Bradford East and welcome future updates.
Youth Service Update - Bradford East
The meeting was scheduled to receive a report (Document “G” in the Public reports pack 05th-Dec-2024 17.30 Bradford East Area Committee) on the work of the Youth Service in Bradford East over the previous year. The report, by David Shepherd, Strategic Director, Place, describes the Youth Service's vision:
to work with partners to ensure that young people grow up healthy, happy, informed and aspiring; proud of who they are, where they come from, and actively involved in their community
The report also describes how the youth service is working to deliver a number of youth offer elements across the constituency, and the challenges that it has faced, including a significant increase in demand for its services. The report pack contains a recommendation that the Committee welcome the work being done.
