The Overview and Scrutiny Panel met to discuss a report on Fenland District Council's environmental commitments and their progress in meeting them, and to review the Panel's work programme for the coming year.

Fenland District Council Environmental Strategy

Councillors considered a report entitled Fenland - Dec 2024 which set out the progress the Council has made against its environmental objectives and commitments. The report covered progress in twelve areas:

• Climate Change
• Waste and Recycling
• Green Spaces
• Air Quality
• Water
• Biodiversity
• Sustainable Procurement
• Community Engagement
• Sustainable Transport
• Energy
• Built Environment
• Flooding and Coastal Erosion

The report provides an update on the progress made against each of the Council's environmental commitments by providing a RAG (Red, Amber, Green) status for each one.

For those actions where insufficient progress has been made to date (i.e. RAG rated Amber or Red) an explanation is provided as well as details of the mitigating steps being taken. Fenland - Dec 2024 page 3.

The report also includes a series of appendices that detail:

• The Council's progress against the actions in its Climate Strategy and Action Plan (Appendix A - Fenland CSP Delivery Plan 23-24 1, Appendix A - Fenland CSP Delivery Plan 24-25 1)
• An update on the Council's 3Cs (Council, Climate Change Committee and Central Government) work to date (O and S 3Cs report 2023 24 002-1)

Overview and Scrutiny Panel Work Programme

The Panel were asked to note the minutes of the meeting held on 3rd September 2024 (Minutes of Previous Meeting) and to review the Overview and Scrutiny Panel's work programme for 2024 to 2025 (Revised Work Program 2024 to 2025 004). The work programme details the topics that the Panel is scheduled to scrutinise over the coming year, along with a series of 'standing items' that the Panel receives an update on at each meeting.
