Summary
This meeting of Area Committee 04 was scheduled to include an update on the work of the committee, and for the committee to consider its response to funding requests from community groups for projects across its area, including Old Market, Knowle, Bedminster and Windmill Hill.
This is a summary of the reports that were scheduled to be discussed. The reports do not tell us what was discussed during the meeting, or any decisions that were made.
Tree Planting Proposals
A report was scheduled to be discussed that sought the committee's decision on whether to approve funding for a proposal to plant 13 trees in locations across the Area Committee's area.
The application for funding, from TreeBristol, stated that:
All of the sites identified are within the ambits of the individual contributions. Codes, Sites, Tree Planting locations and Tree Species are set out below
The application sought £13,984.75 from Section 106 funds that had been allocated for tree planting. The report included a map showing the location of each tree, and listed the following species:
- Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer
- Carpinus betulus
- Ulmus New Horizon

Request for Additional Funds- Old Market Neighbourhood Development Plan Area
The committee was also scheduled to consider a report on a request for additional Community Infrastructure Levy funding for a project to improve the play area and open spaces at St Judes. The report noted that:
£130k CIL was awarded to this project in 2021
The report requested an additional £97,375 to deliver the project.
Notification of Previous Decisions
The final report that was scheduled to be considered was a notification of decisions that had been made at previous Area Committee meetings in February 2024 that were relevant to the new committee boundaries. These decisions were in relation to a number of proposals that had been submitted by community organisations in response to a call for proposals to be funded by the Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 funds. The report listed the organisations and projects that had previously been awarded funding, and how much they had received. The following organisations and projects were listed in the report:
- St Matthias Park improvements
- The Dings Park - Outdoor Youth Activity Equipment
- Docklands Community Legacy Investment
- Repairs and remedial work to Saint Stephen’s City Centre Church garden
- Felix Road Gates 2 (Lift replacement)
- Tenants Hall Development
- BHABC Roof
- Portwall Lane Open Space - Improvements
- The Coach House Refurbishment Project
- Provision of Public Access Defibrillator
The report noted that the committee had previously agreed that a condition should be placed on funding the proposals from Black South West Network and Bristol Somali Resource Centre:
these are subject to planning permission and match funding raised.
