The meeting of the Solihull Health & Wellbeing Board on 16 December 2024 will include reports that cover the health and wellbeing of working age adults, safeguarding, and how the Board works with other local partnership boards.

Health and wellbeing of working age adults

The Board will receive a report that spotlights the health and wellbeing of working age adults, focussing on premature mortality ¹ in Solihull. The report identifies the rate of deaths from circulatory diseases amongst males as more than double the rate for females. The report recommends that the Board endorses the approaches and actions being taken to address premature mortality, which will be presented back to the Board at a future agreed date to demonstrate progress made.

Safeguarding Children

The Board will receive the Solihull Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) Yearly Report 2023/2024. The report gives an account of the activities the SSCP undertook in the previous financial year. The SSCP’s priorities were neglect, early help arrangements and improvements to the partnership, based on the recommendations of the Children's Commissioner.

Neglect remains important as it continues to represent the largest proportion of child protection plans.

The report says the SSCP have produced a Report on a Page to summarise the key actions and outcomes from the year and a guide to the SSCP, referencing the priorities and outcomes for the 2023/2024 year, for parents/carers and young people.

Working with other local partnership boards

The Board is scheduled to discuss its Terms of Reference and a protocol for joint working with the Solihull Safeguarding Adults Board, the Solihull Safeguarding Children Partnership and the Safer Solihull Partnership. The protocol describes how the Boards will work together – including their engagement on major plans and strategies, such as the Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the Annual Safeguarding reports. It also explains the quarterly meetings of the four Boards’ business managers, alongside the bi-annual meetings of multi-board chairs and lead officers.

The meeting will also include reports on:

• The Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System (BSOL) Joint Forward Plan, presented by Rob Checketts, the Chief Policy Officer.
• The work of the Solihull Place Committee.
• The Better Care Fund.
• A supplementary statement to the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment.
• The Solihull Health Protection Annual Report 2023/2024.
