Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Wiltshire and are not the council. About us
The Officer Appointments Committee of Wiltshire Council met on Thursday 9 January 2025 and appointed Lizzie Watkin as the new Corporate Director, Resources. The meeting was held in private for the discussion and decision regarding this appointment.
Appointment of Corporate Director
The committee resolved to appoint Lizzie Watkin to the role of Corporate Director, Resources. This decision was made following an interview process. The meeting was held in private for this item, as it was deemed that the disclosure of exempt information was likely if the public were present, and the public interest in withholding this information outweighed the public interest in disclosing it. The role of Corporate Director, Resources is a senior leadership position within Wiltshire Council, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. The Corporate Director is responsible for setting the strategic policy direction, leadership, operational management, and financial control across various directorates, including Assets, ICT, Finance and Procurement, HR&OD, and Business Transformation. The role involves significant interaction with Cabinet Members and committee chairs, providing advice and recommendations to achieve the council's aims. The position has a substantial impact on the council's overall results, with indirect influence on a gross budget of approximately £876 million and direct responsibility for service budgets and income within the Resources and Corporate directorates totalling £239 million. The role also requires extensive experience in local government finance, strategic leadership, and managing complex multi-disciplinary teams. The successful candidate, Lizzie Watkin, will be expected to provide professional and statutory advice, support strategic decision-making, and foster collaborative working across the organisation.
