The General Licensing and Registration Sub-Committee (1) of County Durham Council met on Wednesday 12 June 2024 to discuss the ongoing suitability of a joint Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver. The Sub-Committee decided to suspend the Licence Holder’s driver’s licence with immediate effect for a period of two months or until the required documentation is provided to the Licensing Authority, whichever is sooner.

Consideration of the Ongoing Suitability of a Joint Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver

The Sub-Committee reviewed the case concerning the ongoing suitability of a Licence Holder to continue being licensed as a joint Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver. The meeting began with a summary of the report by the Senior Licensing Enforcement Officer, who also provided updates on recent developments since the report was written. The Sub-Committee and the Council’s Solicitor then posed questions to the Senior Licensing Enforcement Officer.

The Licence Holder was given the opportunity to address the Sub-Committee and respond to questions from the Council’s Solicitor. Following this, the Sub-Committee adjourned to deliberate in private.

Upon reconvening, the Chair announced the decision to suspend the Licence Holder’s driver’s licence with immediate effect for a period of two months or until the required documentation is provided to the Licensing Authority, whichever is sooner. This decision was made to ensure compliance with licensing regulations and to maintain public safety.
