Summary
This meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Council's officer decisions team included a single item. The donation of thirty devices to Blackburn Foodbank was up for consideration, as part of a social value agreement with a supplier.
Donation of Devices to Blackburn Foodbank
The donation of 30 devices to Blackburn Foodbank was on the agenda. The devices were to be donated as part of the social value proposition of Centerprise, the winning supplier of devices for the council's workforce.
The council is undertaking a programme of replacing laptops over four years old, and has contracted with Centerprise for the provision of the new devices. The tender from Centerprise included a social value proposition of the donation of 50 additional devices to a charity of the council's choice.
Blackburn Foodbank was identified by elected members as a suitable recipient for 30 of these devices, because their existing equipment is significantly outdated. Blackburn Foodbank is a well-established charitable organisation that has been operating for a number of years, and the council is familiar with its work. They provide support to residents from diverse backgrounds across the borough, assisting individuals experiencing acute hardship. Their services include the provision of essential food supplies, support with job applications, and guidance on financial management. The organisation intends to utilise the new technology to enhance operational efficiency, thereby enabling them to extend support to a greater number of residents in need.
The report pack noted that Blackburn with Darwen Council would not be able to support any ongoing obligations to support, maintain and manage the assets donated.
The report pack also noted that devices are available to other VCFSE1 partners as part of the Digital Recycling scheme, and that any partner that wishes to receive these devices can reach out to the Making Rooms.
