September 3, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
In a brief meeting, Councillor Glynog Davies, Cabinet Member for Education & Welsh Language, approved the appointment of several local authority governors to primary and secondary schools within the county, in order to meet the council's statutory obligations. The minutes of the previous meeting held on 9 July 2025 were also approved.
Appointment of Local Authority Governors
Councillor Glynog Davies considered applications for Local Authority Governor vacancies across Carmarthenshire. Nominations were invited from the Chairperson, Headteacher and Local Members for primary schools, and from existing governors for secondary schools.
Local Authority Governors are appointed for a four-year term. According to the council's policy on the Appointment of LA Governors, all County Councillors can stipulate which school governing bodies they wish to sit on, and their decision takes precedence over 'non-elected' LA governors.
The following appointments were made:
- Bancffosfelen Primary School: Councillor Liam Bowen
- Blaenau Primary School: Councillor Dai Thomas
- Bynea Primary School: Councillor Deryk Cundy
- Dafen Primary School: Councillor Rob Evans
- Gymraeg Rhydaman Primary School: Councillor Deian Harries
- Pontyberem Primary School: Councillor Liam Bowen
- Dyffryn Aman Secondary School: Mr C. Higgins
Mr C. Higgins lives in Tycroes and is the Deputy Mayor of Ammanford Town Council. He has been the Chair of Tycroes Primary School governors for around 10 years and is active in community organisations around Ammanford and Tycroes. He has a professional background as a Barrister at Citizens Advice and an NHS trade union manager, and has experience working with the Welsh Government on policy development and employment matters.
