The Hillingdon Council's Petition Hearing - Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing & Growth was scheduled to convene to address several local traffic concerns raised by residents. Councillor Steve Tuckwell, Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing & Growth, was to preside over the hearing, where petitions requesting traffic calming measures, a one-way system, and speed humps were to be considered. The meeting was scheduled to take place at the Civic Centre.

Traffic Calming Measures on The Fairway

A petition requesting speed calming measures for The Fairway, South Ruislip, was scheduled to be discussed. The report pack noted that the petition, signed by 70 residents, called for the implementation of traffic calming measures to reduce speeding, which they say poses a threat to residents and motorists.

The report pack mentioned that the lead petitioner stated:

Speeding has become a significant issue along The Fairway in South Ruislip, posing a threat to both residents and motorists alike. The increasing number of speeding incidents has highlighted the urgent need for effective traffic calming measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

The report pack stated that the petitioners suggested that communities similar to Ruislip have effectively curbed speeding issues by installing speed bumps, chicanes, or speed cameras.

The report pack also contained the results of previous speed and traffic surveys undertaken in 2018, 2020 and 2021. The 85th percentile speeds¹ were found to be 31 mph on each survey.

The report pack stated that Councillor Steve Tuckwell was to meet with petitioners to listen to their concerns, note the results of previous surveys, and then decide whether to commission further independent 24/7 speed and traffic surveys on The Fairway, at locations agreed with petitioners and ward councillors.

The report pack also stated that Councillor Steve Tuckwell was to ask an officer in the Council's Parking Enforcement Team to investigate options to enforce against possible moving traffic contraventions at the junction of The Fairway and Angus Drive and to report back to him.

One-Way Traffic Request on Ayles Road

A petition requesting a one-way system on Ayles Road, Hayes was scheduled to be discussed. The report pack noted that the petition, signed by 52 residents, requested that Ayles Road be made one-way on each side, north to south up to The Greenway, past Barnhill Community Centre, and south to north towards Kingshill Avenue past St Raphaels Church.

The report pack stated that the petitioners believe this would make access and travel along the road much easier, as currently, if two vehicles are on the same side, there becomes a standoff as to who is going to back up.

The report pack stated that Councillor Steve Tuckwell was to meet with petitioners to listen to their concerns, and then decide whether officers should undertake an informal consultation on a possible one-way working in an area agreed with ward councillors.

Speed Humps Request on Crowland Avenue

A petition requesting the installation of speed humps on Crowland Avenue, Hayes to prevent speeding was scheduled to be discussed. The report pack noted that the petition was signed mainly by residents of Crowland Avenue.

The report pack stated that the lead petitioner submitted that residents are concerned and worried about the speeding issues and want to see speed humps and or effective measures to be installed on Crowland Avenue.

The report pack stated that Councillor Steve Tuckwell was to meet with petitioners and listen to their request for traffic calming measures on Crowland Avenue, and then decide whether officers should commission independent 24/7 speed and traffic surveys on Crowland Avenue, at locations agreed with petitioners and ward councillors.

Speed Bumps Request on Park Avenue

A petition requesting speed bumps on Park Avenue, Ruislip was scheduled to be discussed. The report pack noted that the e-petition, with 21 signatures, was submitted to the Council, mainly by residents of Park Avenue.

The report pack stated that the lead petitioner stated that there are currently speed bumps on the adjacent side of the road, however, there is a large volume of speeding cars all through the day posing a great danger to the young children as well as the older residents.

The report pack stated that Councillor Steve Tuckwell was to meet with petitioners and listen to their request for 'speed bumps' on Park Avenue, Ruislip, and then decide whether officers should commission independent 24/7 speed and traffic surveys on Park Avenue, at locations agreed with petitioners and ward councillors.
