Here's a summary of the items scheduled for discussion at the Broxtowe Council meeting on 9 September 2025. The agenda included appointments to committees, declarations of interest from councillors, and a confidential report regarding senior appointments. Members were asked to exclude the public and press from the meeting to discuss the senior appointments.
Senior Appointments
The council was scheduled to discuss a report from the Monitoring Officer regarding senior appointments. This discussion was expected to be held in exclusion of the public and press, as it was thought to contain exempt information as defined in the Local Government Act 19721.
Declarations of Interest
Councillors were asked to declare any disclosable pecuniary interests2 or other interests relating to items on the agenda. The report pack included guidance for councillors on how to declare interests, and what actions to take depending on the type of interest. The guidance stated:
You are personally responsible for deciding whether or not you should disclose an interest in a meeting which allows the public, Council employees and fellow Councillors know which of your interests gives rise to a conflict of interest. If in doubt you should always seek advice from your Monitoring Officer.
The pack reminded councillors that failure to declare a disclosable pecuniary interest is a criminal offence under the Localism Act 20113. The guidance also covered non-registrable interests, bias, and predetermination. It stated that if a councillor has been involved in an issue in such a manner that the public are likely to perceive them to be biased, they should not take part in the decision-making process and should leave the room.
Appointments to Committees and Working Groups
The council was scheduled to make appointments to its committees and working groups. The report pack did not specify which committees or working groups were up for appointment.
