Summary
The Rochdale Council Transport Committee convened to discuss the Draft Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan 2050 and to review updates on transport-related matters. The committee also approved the minutes from their previous meeting on 18 June 2025.
Draft Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan 2050
The Transport Committee received an update on the Draft Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan 2050 (LTP). The LTP is a long-term strategy that sets out the vision and priorities for transport investment in Greater Manchester. It is developed in collaboration with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and is designed to align with the development timeline for transport projects in the region. The plan aims to support strategic growth locations, including Atom Valley, and guide investment priorities in the coming years.
The committee was informed that a new programme of funding had been announced to support Greater Manchester and Rochdale, with a particular focus on feasibility work related to tram/train integration. This funding would serve as a replacement for the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) and would be in effect from March 2027 to March 2032.
The funding forms part of a broader financial settlement for the Greater Manchester city region and is expected to offer increased flexibility in its application. In the immediate term, there would be a period dedicated to developing projects and building a robust evidence base to support future investment decisions.
