Summary
The Police and Crime Committee met on Wednesday 17 September 2025 to discuss a range of issues, including a question and answer session with the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), and the committee's work programme. The committee was also scheduled to note ongoing actions from previous meetings, and to note declarations of interest from Assembly Members.
Question and Answer Session with the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime
The committee was scheduled to hold a question and answer session with Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and senior officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).
The question and answer session was scheduled to cover:
- A New Met for London Phase 2 (2025-28)
- Notting Hill Carnival
- The MPS's summer policing plan
The report pack included the MOPAC Monthly Report: 5 July – 5 September 2025, which provided an update on policing operational and financial performance, as well as the activities and decisions of MOPAC.
The report stated that Kaya Comer-Schwartz met with senior members of the MPS as part of her oversight and engagement work, including meetings with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, and Assistant Commissioners. She also attended the 7/7 Service of Commemoration at St Paul's Cathedral.
The report also included a letter from Sir Mark Rowley QPM, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, regarding the launch of the public consultation on phase 2 of A New Met for London. Sir Mark Rowley stated in his letter that:
The consultation provides an opportunity for us to highlight the areas that we believe need continued focus, alongside new areas we will prioritise over the next three years. It also provides an important moment to reflect on our progress.
He also stated that the Met is strengthening trust, cutting crime, and raising standards.
Police and Crime Committee Work Programme
The committee was scheduled to note its work programme. The committee's work programme is intended to enable it to effectively fulfil its roles of holding MOPAC to account and investigating issues of importance to policing and crime reduction in London.
