Herefordshire Council's Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Thursday 25 September 2025 to discuss the council's financial performance, risk management, and a suicide prevention strategy. The Cabinet will also consider the findings of a recent corporate peer challenge and a potential partnership for a secure welfare provision.
Herefordshire Suicide Prevention Strategy
The Cabinet is scheduled to discuss and potentially approve the Herefordshire Suicide Prevention Strategy 2025 - 2029. The strategy is intended to take a whole-county, all-age approach
and commits the council to working with partner organisations to reduce the number of suicides in Herefordshire.

Medium Term Financial Strategy
The Cabinet is scheduled receive an update on the council's Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS). The update is expected to cover:
- Key headlines from the Spending Review June 2025
- Potential impacts of local authority funding reform on the council's future financial position
The report pack includes the Medium Term Financial Strategy - Update to Cabinet and the Approved MTFS 202526 to 202829.
Q1 Budget Report
The Cabinet is scheduled to review the council's financial performance for Quarter 1 (June 2025) of the 2025/26 financial year. The Q1 202526 Budget Report includes:
- An explanation and analysis of the drivers for material budget variances
- An outline of current and planned recovery activity to reduce the forecast overspend
Corporate Peer Challenge
The Cabinet is scheduled to receive a report on the outcome of the Local Government Association Corporate Peer Challenge, which took place from 23 - 26 June 2025. The Cabinet will also consider and potentially approve the council's action plan in response to the recommendations for publication.
West Midlands Safe Centre
The Cabinet is scheduled to discuss the opportunities and risks associated with forming a partnership with other local authorities in the West Midlands to create a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). This SPV would own and manage the secure welfare provision on behalf of the 14 local authorities/Trusts involved.
According to the agenda, this item will not be open to the public and press because it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information relating to financial or business affairs and information in respect of which a claim to legal professional privilege could be maintained.
Risk Management Update
The Cabinet is scheduled to receive an update on the status of corporate risks at the end of Quarter 1 2025/26 (June 2025). The Risk Management Update Quarter 1 2025-26 is intended to provide assurance that risks are being managed effectively across the council.
Q1 Performance Report
The Cabinet is scheduled to review performance for Quarter 1 (Q1) 2025/26. The Q1 Performance Report is intended to report the performance position across all Directorates for this period.
