The Education and Social Services Scrutiny Committee met on Tuesday 2nd September 2025, and scheduled to discuss specialist additional learning provision, the directorate budget, and school inspection outcomes. Development of Specialist Additional Learning Provision
The committee was scheduled to discuss a proposal for the development of specialist additional learning provision for children with additional learning needs1. The proposal was for resource bases across the borough. The committee was scheduled to consider the information in the officer's report and decide whether to recommend that the cabinet proceed to statutory notice2 in relation to the proposal.
Estyn Inspection Outcomes
The committee was scheduled to discuss a report on the summary of Estyn's inspection outcomes under the New Common Inspection Framework (CIF) from January 2022 to July 2025. Members were scheduled to scrutinise the contents of the report and ask questions and offer views about overall school outcomes.
Estyn is the education and training inspectorate for Wales. They inspect state schools, colleges, and other education providers to ensure quality and standards.
Directorate Budget Monitoring
The committee was scheduled to note the contents of the Directorate of Education and Social Services Budget Monitoring Report for 2025/26 (Month 3).
Forward Work Programme
The committee was scheduled to consider their forward work programme and decide whether to publish it on the council's website.
