The Cornwall Council Appeals Committee met on Friday 26 September 2025, to discuss several requests for school transport assistance. Councillor James Ball was elected Chairman for the meeting. The committee approved two requests for travel assistance and refused four.
School Transport Appeals
The Appeals Committee considered seven requests for travel assistance for pupils attending various schools. The press and public were excluded from the meeting during these discussions, as they involved disclosure of information relating to individuals, in accordance with the Local Government Act 19721.
The committee made the following decisions:
- Transport to Penair School (Case 1): This appeal was withdrawn before the meeting.
- Transport to Penair School (Case 2): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Penair School from their address near Newquay was approved.
- Transport to Poltair School (Case 1): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Poltair School from their address in Mevagissey was refused.
- Transport to Poltair School (Case 2): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Poltair School from their address in Mevagissey was refused.
- Transport to Poltair School (Case 3): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Poltair School from their address in Mevagissey was refused.
- Transport to Poltair School (Case 4): The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Poltair School from their address in Mevagissey was refused.
- Transport to Treviglas Academy: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Treviglas Academy from their address near Wadebridge was approved.
For the item regarding transport to Treviglas Academy, Councillor James O'Keefe clarified that he had no prior contact with the appellant:
Although it was not a declarable interest, for the purposes of clarity Councillor O'Keefe confirmed that he had not had any prior contact with the appellant for Agenda Item 6.7
Minutes of the Previous Meeting
The minutes of the meeting held on 8 September 2025 were approved as a correct record and will be signed by the Chairman.
