The Newcastle-under-Lyme Council's Conservation Advisory Working Party is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, 30th September 2025. The agenda includes discussing new planning applications, and considering any applications for financial assistance from the Conservation and Heritage Fund. The minutes of the previous meeting are also scheduled for review.
New Planning Applications
The Conservation Advisory Working Party is scheduled to discuss two planning applications:
Ivy Cottage, Lymes Road, Butterton
The council is scheduled to discuss applications relating to Ivy Cottage, reference numbers 25/00623/FUL and 25/00624/LBC. These applications relate to proposed internal and external alterations to the house, including replacing the conservatory with an orangery[^2], and demolishing and rebuilding the garage. The report pack notes that the property is a Grade II Listed Building, and the planned works may affect its setting. [^2]: An orangery is a type of glazed building, similar to a greenhouse or conservatory, traditionally used for growing citrus trees.
Victoria House, Victoria Road, Newcastle
The council is scheduled to discuss an application concerning Victoria House, reference 25/00789/FUL, which proposes replacing five wooden sash windows on the upper floor with composite replicas. The report pack notes that Victoria House is within the Stubbs Walk Conservation Area.
Conservation and Heritage Fund
The agenda includes an item to consider any applications for financial assistance from the Conservation and Heritage Fund. The report pack does not contain any further information about specific applications.
Minutes of Previous Meetings
The minutes from the previous meeting held on 5th August 2025 are included in the Public Reports Pack for review. According to the minutes, at the August 5th meeting, Councillor Trevor Johnson was in the chair, and Councillors Lilian Barker MBE, Andrew Turnock, and Philip Reece were present. Apologies were received from Councillor Annabel Lawley and Dr Sukey Venables Fisher. The minutes record the following observations regarding new applications received:
- Land fronting Highway Lane, Keele (25/00439/OUT): The advisory working party had no objections in principle to one dwelling on the site.
- Aston Manor Farmhouse, Aston (25/00388/LBC): The advisory working party had no objections.
- Morston House, The Midway, Newcastle (25/00438/FUL): The advisory working party had no objections to the scheme amendments and materials.
- Land SE adjacent to J16 of M6 at Cheshire boundary (25/00346/OUT): Some members raised concerns over the vibration of increased traffic and the inappropriate and harmful effect that the development would have overall on the rural landscape and surrounding farmsteads.
The minutes also state that there were no applications received for the Conservation and Heritage Fund, and no urgent business was discussed.
